 BOP control cables are used for offshore oilrigs. They are typically comprised of hydraulic hoses and electrical conductors. The hoses actuate valves on the BOP stack, which sits at the wellhead on the sea floor. When rigs drill in deeper water, however, the increased pressure can collapse hoses, causing the BOP system to malfunction. To avoid this, most rigs that drill in water depths beyond 4,000 ft use electrical controls. Most of these rigs utilize Vector Cable BOP cables.
